In the delightful town centre, which is easily reached on foot, the Arts Centre provides a busy programme of cultural activities such as concerts, shows, art exhibitions and films all year round.

Only a quarter of a mile from the cottage is Burghley Park where a lovely walk of a mile past mature oak trees, sheep and deer brings you to the spectacular Burghley House, built by Elizabeth I's treasurer, William Cecil. There are guided tours in spring and summer. Cecil is buried in St Martin's Church which is only 50 metres from the cottage.

Open-air Shakespeare plays take place in summer at the nearby Tolethorpe Hall (3.5 miles).

Rutland Water is 6 miles west and offers sailing, fishing and cycling (with cycle hire) to suit all levels.

The attractive market towns of Oakham (12 miles), Oundle (15 miles) and Uppingham (17 miles) are all in easy driving distance.
