Very nearby is the Axe Valley Wetlands Nature Reserve, which is perfect for bird-watching ... a wide variety of waders, water-fowl (plus kingfishers and even barn-owls) can be seen.

The popular towns of Lyme Regis and Sidmouth are each within a 15 minute drive and each has a wide range of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. Lyme Regis is also famed for its fossil hunting.

The Cathedral City of Exeter, Dartmoor and Exmoor, Torbay and the Dart Valley can all be easily reached from West Ridge and are ideal destinations for a "day out".
